Leslie M. Currie, CPA
Leslie has been in public accounting since 1980. She is currently on the board and is a former board chair and finance chair for Partners in Careers, a non-profit organization which helps people with job training and placement. She graduated from both Clark College and the University of Portland with honors. Leslie has previously been on the board of directors and finance committees for Mt. Hood Council of Camp Fire and The Hardy Plant Society of Oregon. She was also formerly the president, treasurer and board member of Camp Opportunity, Inc. She often provides consulting and has done speaking engagements for local organizations.
Born and raised in Clark County has provided Leslie with a broad understanding of the local economy and business community. Leslie is co-owner of a local convenience store with her brother. She enjoys quilting and reading as well as gardening and traveling with her husband.
Leslie is a member of the Washington Society of CPAs as well as the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Linda McLain, CPA
Linda has been in public accounting since 1984. She is a graduate of Portland State University where she was a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Alpha Psi, and a recipient of the Joseph O’Roark Accounting Scholarship.
Linda has been a principal in Currie and McLain, P.S. since its formation in 1988. She has lived in Clark County since 1979 where she has been involved in the community through various organizations. She has also been a part-time instructor at Clark College and has served as a member of their business school advisory board.
Linda enjoys her volunteer work for the community. She has served as the political chair for the local Sierra Club as well as serving on political candidate’s advisory councils and as their campaign treasurer.
Linda is presently treasurer on the board of directors of Columbia Riverkeeper and is also a board member and former treasurer of Vancouver’s Downtown Association.
In her spare time she loves traveling with her husband, Dale, and spending time with her family.
Doug McLain, CPA
Doug is certified in Washington and has been with Currie & McLain, P.S. since 2003. He received a bachelor of science degree in biology from Oregon State University in 1995. He spent a number of years working for cruise lines in the Bahamas. He returned to the Pacific Northwest and completed his accounting courses at Portland State University.
Doug has lived in Washington and Oregon for most of his life. He volunteers with a number of non-profit organizations in the community. He is currently serving as Mentor with the Washington State University Mentor Analysis Program.
In his spare time he enjoys canoeing, biking, and backpacking with his family.
Nancy Hedrick, CPA
Nancy has been with Currie & McLain, P.S. since 1988. She is the tax and financial manager of the condominium and homeowner association department and is also an integral part of the commercial financial team.
She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Portland State University in 1984 and passed the CPA exam the following May. She has taught accounting classes at Clark College and has volunteered on the board of her condominium association. Before beginning her working career Nancy had an unforgettable opportunity to play the violin with the Marylhurst Symphony Orchestra for a concert season.
Outside the office, she participates in the development of a website for health science education. She also enjoys mystery novels, nature hikes, and working out at the gym.
Micci Davis, CPA
Micci is certified as a CPA in Washington and Oregon as well as her native state of Montana. She is very detail oriented and has extensive experience in bookkeeping, payroll, tax and auditing. Micci also does the majority of the accounting software consulting for the firm.
Micci graduated from Montana State University in 1990. She moved to Washington in 1995 and enjoys fishing, camping and hiking with her family.
Randy Sprenger, Enrolled Agent
Randy moved from California in 1996. He has been preparing income tax returns since 1985 and this year will be his 30th tax season. Some of the perks that Randy enjoys is the occasional public speaking and tax presentations. Randy spent many years working in the National and State Parks and Forests as a firefighter, interpreter, and law enforcement officer.
Randy’s favorite pastimes include traveling, reading, hockey, and the martial arts.
John Caton, CPA
John Caton is a graduate of the University of Portland and has been in public accounting since 1970. He started with one of the national firms and began his own practice in 1974. In 2011, he sold his ownership interest in Caton, Day & Co. CPAs, Inc and became Partner Emeritus in the successor firm of Day, Bacon, Smith & Co. PLLC where he worked on special projects. Not being interested in just retiring, John has been associated with Currie & McLain, P.S. since 2013 which allows him to pursue his interests in working with estates and dealing with other elder issues. He will also be assisting the firm during tax season.
John is very active in the community by serving on the Vancouver Planning Commission for 12 years and as Chairman for four years; Vancouver Charter Review Committee for all seven reviews since 1979 and Chair of two of them; Clark County Three Creeks Council; and currently the County/City Parks Commission. He has been active in numerous non-profit organizations and is currently on the Board of Directors for Innovative Services Northwest.
John has lived in Clark County for 50 years and having traveled to most parts of the country, finds no better place to be. He has two sons that have gone into banking and public accounting. His personal interests, besides community service, include reading science fiction, mysteries, and history, and spoiling his only granddaughter.
John Caughell has been in the service of providing accounting, tax and business advice since 1992. John has been with firms in Visalia, California, Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington. His focus while in public accounting was on Compilation and Review services and entity taxation for several hundred small businesses. Industries he supported include construction, manufacturing, real estate development, retail/wholesale, and not-for-profits. He also helped develop the firms business advisory services section, focused on helping clients streamline their businesses and understand how to more effectively use resources to grow profitably.
John handled substantially all the firms practice development and staff management. He was the treasurer for several not-for-profits in Clark County, Washington and represented his firm at all community events.
John took a break from public accounting in 2010 to join a cloud computing startup business as Director of Business Development and Strategic Planning. In this role, John designed the business plan, created the sales literature, designed the marketing and promotional collateral and hired and trained the sales team.
In 2014, John was brought onboard full time as Controller and CFO for a local business. This Company had 4 divisions and a wholly-owned subsidiary. John’s responsibility was to streamline the accounting department, create new processes and workflows, and help the management team understand the financial impact of operating decisions.
In 2016, John joined Currie & McLain, P.S. John’s primary focus will be on working with the staff on Audit, Review and Compilation services and entity tax support. He will also be a key part of the firm’s practice development and new client acquisitions.
In his spare time, John and his wife Kubae enjoy traveling around the Pacific NW in search of great wines and spending time with their children and new born grandchildren.
Cara, Administrative Asst.
Cara began working for Currie & McLain in 2015. She has a background in teaching and non-profit work. Cara attended the University of Victoria where she obtained a master’s degree in history, with a specialty in English Early Modernism and French Romanticism.
After living abroad and traveling for several years, Cara settled back into her hometown of Vancouver, Washington. She still enjoys traveling, and spends her free time attempting to catch up on reading and keeping her cat from eating all her embroidery projects.
Barkley, Official Greeter
Barkley has been with Currie and McLain, P.S. off and on since 2004. His job is to greet clients, chase balls and beg staff members for treats. He loves everyone and all too often, is ready to give a big kiss (even if it hasn’t been requested).
